Munich in one day

There is more to Munich then beer and pretzels, but it´s a part of the culture for sure. When I last visited Munich we only had a day there, so we had the best the most out of it. So what to you do in Germany´s third largest city in one day?

First of all, start your day at one of the streetmarkets. Start the day with fresh fruit, cheeze and pretzels while you watch the city wake up.

Do the mandatory sightseeing to the main square Marienplatz where you can see gorgeous architecture and small cafes. At certain times a day, you can listen to the famous clocktower for 12 minutes before it´s over. Remember that this is one of the most famous sights in Munich, so try to avoid the crows and be here early.

If you want good luck in life, visit Odeonplatz aswell. If you rub the nose of a lion statue here, that will help you on the way to a good life. Here is also the perfect place to stop for a scoop of ice cream of one of the cafes.

Bonus tip: You´re not the first person to touch the nose, so remember to bring antibacterial soap.

Odeonplatz, Munich

Even though Munich is more then beer and pretzels, you actually have to visit a beergarden while you´re here. There´s a lot of them all over the city, but the English Garden is one of the worlds biggest public parks, and can therefore be worth a visit. The big park is even bigger then Central Park in New York and there´s a lot to see here. There are different beergardens here and most of them are filled up after 5 PM. Make sure to be there in time to get a seat, otherwise you walk along the river till you find another beergarden.

Bonus tip: The view of the green park with ducks swimming in the river at sunset are amazing. An absolute recommendation.

While you are in the park, you can also do a small hike up the hill to the monopteros. This is a great way to see the park in distant, without being to far away from it.

Monopteros, English Garden

One of the things I loved the most about the English Garden, where the surfing at Eisbach River. The ground under the water, makes it a perfect spot for surfing. Beginners to pro surfers get together here and tries their best to stay on the board. After they´ve had their shot, they follow the river down till the end of the queue and wait for their turn again. At the pictures underneath you can see the surfers waiting for their turn on the sideline.

Stroll along the Isar River and you will feel the calm atmosphere around in the park. Stay at the beergarden till the suns goes down, and you will see how the city transform with city lights at night on your walk home to your hotel. If you feel that you´re not done with the citylife, take the 2 hours trainride to Lindau. A beautiful smalltown with a lot to offer.
