When it comes to a such big city as London, it`s important to know what you are looking for there. Are you there for the shopping or the sighseeing? Or a bit of both? Here comes some of my tips to make the most out of your stay in London for the weekend.

 Shopping

If you went to London to do bargains, you`re at the wrong place at the wrong time. As a cause to the currency changes, it`s not the best time for a scandinavian to go to London to shop. Of course you can find the most thinkable stores in Oxford Street, such as Primark, H&M, River Island and other budgetstores here, along with M&S and Selfridges. It takes about one and a half hour just to walk the street from one side to another. So remember to extimate enough time to do some shopping aswell.

Picadilly Circus has a lot to offer in many ways. You have great shops and also expensive ones, along with theatres and resturants. This is the perfect place to be before leaving for the airport, but be aware of the crowds.

Bonus tip: If your favourite store is at the other end of Oxford street, take the tube directly there and start your shopping there. Take will makes your shoppingexperience much better and less stressful.

Transportation

When you first arrive at Heathrow Airport, you will meet two guys offering to sell you a ticket for the Heatrow Express to Paddington station in London. Do not do that! (unless you are in a real hurry). Those tickets are really expesive, and I mean really expesive. The express takes you to London in 15 min for 27 pounds. The other option is to save 21 pounds to take the tube for 30 minutes instead. It`s a lot of travellers who take the tube and you will meet inhabitants aswell. As a plus, you get to watch the area outside of London too.

To travel inside London, do not purchase a 6-zones all-day paperticket. Our cashiere told us that it wasn`t possible anymore to purchase only one-zone tickets for one day, so we used more then twise as much as needed. Therefore, buy the travelcard for one zone if you are planning to only see the city centre of course. They cost 5 pound each day and you pay a 5 pound deposit you get back at the airport.

Eat and drink

There are a lot of resturants and cafees in London. So pick one that you seems to like and try it out. The asian resturants are often full during the weekends, but you will be seated after a drink in the bar. For those you want a heathy snack between 5 and 6 PM, swing buy Itsu and get 50 precent off for fresh sushi and noodles. Delicious!

Camden Market is also a great option. You have fast food aside with french resturants and streakhouses. While you are here, you can visit the London Transportation Museum and take a short walk to the main street where you can find everything from the giant chain stores to small boutiques. Defently worth a visit.

Activities

One of the mandatory things to do in London is to watch musicals. There is a wide range of concerts and known and unknown musicals to choose from. If you want to see a musical, stop by a ticketoffice that day and get discounted tickets. The discount is not much, and sometimes you end up paying more for a seat high up, then you would down near the stage.

A month ago I attended the very last performance of "Cats" on West End, which was amazing. The songs and dancing made it really good, along with the amazing costumes. We also saw "Thriller Live", a tribute show for Michael Jackson. Last time I visited London, we also watched "Let It Be", a The Beatles show and "Wicked", which both where awesome. A musical in London is definitely a must! Swing by Leisquester Square, where a lot of the musicals are located.

 Sightseeing

You can`t visit London without seeing London Eye and Buckingham Palace. Use the tube afficently and see many attractions in a day. Without the big momuments in London, the London Castle, the dungerons, Tate Modern og The Globe are worth a visit aswell. There will be a lot of people here too, but not as many as the famous sights. Stroll down Themes river and see the skyline of the city. Many small cafees and boutiques down at the river.

Final bonus tip: Try not to visit London the same weekend as the London Marathon, unless you`re there for the marathon. Many roads are closed, same with underground exits and there`s a lot of people everywhere. Talking from experience, try not to visit Buckingham Palace midday, when half of London gathers there.
