Itinerary: Roadtrip in the US 2016

I can´t really believe that it´s been a year since I went to New York for the first time. I visited California the year before, but never had I seen the Big Apple. I really enjoyed my stay, and soon I will be there again.

In this post I will give you a brief on what this trip really is about. It´s filled with places I don´t know that much about, but so far our schedule looks something like this:

Day 1: 31st of May

Flight from Oslo, Gardermoen at 18.15 PM, four hours after my last exam. It takes approximately 8 hours from Oslo to New York, so keep those legs in action and bring our sleeping mask and a good book.

Arrived in New York, we´ll check in at Hotel 31 at Manhattan. At this time it´s almost bedtime, so we´ll probably just get a bit somewhere.

New York Skyline

Day 2: 1st of June

New York: Let´s go sightseeing! With a city pass, we will get to see the best arractions in a short period of time. I guess most of it will be really crowed, but we have to do a little sighseeing when you come to a new city.

Day 3: 2nd of June

More sighseeing, some shopping and a lot of eating – if I know myself best.

Day 4: 3rd of June

Last day in New York. We only have time for breakfast, before taking the bus to Washington D.C. Front row seats and A/C. Barack Obama – here we come!

In Washington we have booked a hotel a little out of the city. Prices in this city for a family at four, is nothing to laugh of. The pricerange a little further out is much better, with good connections to the city with buss or car.

Day 5-6: 4th of June – 5th of June

Washington – sightseeing, shopping, eating. Just normal days for me.

Lincoln Memorial

Day 6: 5th of June

In Washington D.C. we get a rental car and drive all the way from Washington to New Orleans. Tips and ideas are highly welcome for our roadtrip!

Day 7: 6th of June

Knoxville

Day 8-10: 7th of June – 9th of June

Nashville

Day 10-12: 9th of June – 11th of June

New Orleans:
Done with the roadtrip trough a lot of states and finally arrived in New Orleans. Unlucky us, Mardi Gras as already been, but I hope New Orleans has a lot more to offer.

Mardi Gras

Day 12: 11th of June

Panama City
Church in Panama City

Day 13-15: 12th of June – 14th of June

Clearwater Beach

Day 15-17: 14th of June - 18th of June

Fort Lauderdale:
Last stop for this trip. Florida and long beaches – here we come! I have to at least get a little tan before returning to cold Norway for the rest of the summer.

Seaside of Fort Lauderdale

The last day we will get a flight back home to Oslo, after many days on the road and many new experiences in my backpack.

As I said earlier, if you have any recommendations or tips for our trip, just let me know. Please comment below or send me a message. Have a good one!

5 things New York taught me

New York has everything a city can offer. Food, drinks, nice people and a lot of different things to do and see. I had so many expectations before I got to New York from movies and something were the same. But a couple of things were different then I imagined. Actually I´ve been thinking about moving to New York for a period just because I loved the city so much. Here comes 5 things I learned in the Big Apple:

1.     New Yorkers don`t stress around

You could name any movie filmed as New York and you would see people stressing around everywhere. That is not the reality. Well yes, some people are in a real hurry, but normal business people never run around like animals. They take their time to get off the subway and they walk slow up the stairs up to the street. Even too slow for two girls who are trying to get to JFK in a real hurry.

2.     New Yorkers don`t talk business in the phone at all times

Same as point 1, I have always had the impression that New Yorkers always talk business either they are at the subway with a big crowd or if they are walking somewhere to get lunch. On the other hand, they do talk business, but they rather to it together with someone else while they are walking to get lunch. I have heard a lot of people talking business in the phone, but I have also seen several people talking big business before going to a cafè.

3.     New Yorkers talk really aggresive without being it

You can heard them. And you hear them good. They are about something that you can`t even hear because they talk to fast and because you are to focused to see their bodylanguage. The fact is that they are not mad -  at least not at each other, propably just mad at the world.

4.     New Yorkers starts crossing the road with a red hand

Even with a red hand, the first thing you do when you get to the road is to get in front of the line, for then to start crossing even tough there are cars approching. Welcome to New York guys!

New York City Update

After a couple of days here in the US, it's time for an update.

The next two weeks

Summer means vacation. Vacation means travelling. Travelling means exploring. In this case, exploring means USA and Canada.

Slottsfjell: Norway´s most relaxed festival

Wondering which festival to attend next summer? I got an answer. If you are up for volounteer work for a day in exchange for a free festival pass, this is the place for you!

Norway for the weekender

Oslo - Valdres - Geiranger - Molde - Averøya

Munich in one day

There is more to Munich then beer and pretzels, but it´s a part of the culture for sure. When I last visited Munich we only had a day there, so we had the best the most out of it. So what to you do in Germany´s third largest city in one day?
